DEVIN BOOKER (SG)
  • Jul 18 2016, 10:55 AM

Update: Booker averaged 21.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in three Las Vegas Summer League games.

Analysis: The Suns held Booker out following pool play, but it was evident over even the small, three-game sample that he was among the best players in Vegas. Booker connected on 6-of-10 three-point attempts and led Phoenix to wins over Portland and Boston before donning street clothes for the remainder of the week. Ultimately, it's difficult to take anything definitive away from summer league play, but Booker certainly looked the part of a player ready to make another leap in Year 2.

Update: Booker recorded 34 points (12-25 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 6-10 FT), five rebounds, two assists, and two steals across 39 minutes during the Suns' 103-90 loss to the Hawks on Tuesday.

Analysis: After going 11-for-37 for 28 points over the last two games, Booker responded with a brilliant bounce-back effort on Tuesday versus the Hawks. This was his sixth showing with 30 points or more, and Booker might have had a real shot at Rookie of the Year if he had been thrown into the fire a bit earlier this season. Nevertheless, he has been spectacular during one of the worst years in franchise history.

Update: Booker had 30 points (10-22 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 8-9 FT), five assists, three rebounds, and one block in 43 minutes during the Suns' 121-116 loss to the Timberwolves on Monday.

Analysis: It's yet another stellar showing for the rookie, who is averaging 22.7 points, five assists, and 3.1 rebounds in 38 minutes during March. That production makes him a must-start player in any format, and a prime asset in dynasty formats.

Update: Booker tallied 21 points (8-20 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, four assists and a steal over 34 minutes in Saturday's 102-99 loss to the Celtics.

Analysis: The 19-year-old once again spearheaded the Suns' attack, and posted his third straight double-digit scoring effort. Those point totals have unsurprisingly been accompanied by double-digit shot attempts in each of those contests, as Booker continues to take the lead on offense on most nights. He continues to be an outstanding shooting guard option in all formats, and is now averaging 22.8 points, 4.8 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 0.4 blocks and 1.0 steals over the last five games.

Update: Booker supplied 26 points (11-21 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 2-4 FT), five rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block over 34 minutes in Friday's 116-94 loss to the Kings.

Analysis: With an upset stomach felling backcourt mate Brandon Knight for the evening, Booker had even more scoring responsibility than usual. The additional pressure may have been partly to blame for his career-high nine turnovers, but the rookie turned in a solid stat line otherwise. It was his third game with over 20 points in his last four, and the second straight contest where he took over 20 shot attempts. If Knight is forced to miss Saturday's tilt against the Celtics as well, Booker figures to once again take on a heavier load than usual, albeit in a much tougher matchup.

Update: Booker poured in 28 points (12-22 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven assists, three rebounds, one steal, and one block over 41 minutes in Wednesday's win against the Lakers.

Analysis: It is Booker's second 20-plus point performance against the Lakers this week as the rookie guard, like most guards this season, feasted on the league's worst defensive team. Wednesday's 28-point performance is the fifth time he's hit that mark and his impressive assist production continues as well. Both Booker and backcourt mate Brandon Knight will continue to have a ton of scoring opportunities in Phoenix's fast and free offense.

Update: Booker supplied 21 points (5-18 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 10-10 FT), seven assists, five rebounds and a steal over 36 minutes in Friday's 95-90 victory over the Lakers.

Analysis: Although he struggled to find the net for the fourth straight game, Booker found a way to contribute by remaining aggressive throughout. His 10 visits to the charity stripe greatly supplemented his scoring, allowing him to bounce back from a forgettable seven-point outing against the Jazz on Thursday. Although Booker and Brandon Knight continue to acclimate to playing alongside one another following the latter's return from his groin injury, there figures to be plentiful scoring opportunities for both in the Suns' fast-paced attack.

Update: Booker tallied 35 points (12-24 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 10-11 FT), five assists, three rebounds, a steal and a block over 44 minutes in Thursday's 116-98 loss to the Nuggets.

Analysis: The 19-year-old rookie encouragingly continues to receive a heaping helping of minutes even in lopsided losses, and has already developed into one of the best young shooters in the game with the extended opportunities he's received in the wake of Eric Bledsoe's season-ending knee injury. Booker has now gone over 30 points in three of his last five, shooting 50 percent or better in that trio of contests as well. He's averaging an outstanding 25.8 points, 4.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds over six March games so far.

Update: Booker dropped a game-high 32 points (14-28 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 1-2 FT to go with three rebounds and one assist in 39 minutes during Wednesday's loss to the Knicks.

Analysis: Booker is on an absolute tear and has scored 30-plus points twice in his last four games. With the Suns' rotation a shell of its previously NBA-caliber self, Booker has had the unequivocal green light and is taking full advantage. He's registered 10 or more shots in all but six of his previous 34 games. The rookie is a hot commodity right now.

Update: Booker had 27 points (8-17 FG, 4-11 3Pt, 7-7 FT), nine assists, two rebounds, one steal, and one block in 43 minutes during the Suns' 109-100 win versus the Grizzlies on Sunday.

Analysis: Booker has now scored 20 points or more seven times this season, and the nine assists he handed out fell one shy of matching his career high. Booker has been a bright spot during a dark season for the Suns, and the rookie seems primed for a promising NBA career. The Suns are back in action on Wednesday against the Knicks, and Booker will look to build off of Sunday's showing and lead his team to a rare third straight victory. Over the last five games, he is averaging 20.6 points (40.7 FG, 32.3 3Pt, 87.1 FT), 4.4 assists, three rebounds, two threes, 0.4 steals, and 0.4 blocks in 37 minutes per appearance.

Update: Booker dropped 34 points (11-21 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 9-9 FT) and also contributed four assists and three rebounds in 39 minutes on Thursday in a loss against the Heat.

Analysis: Booker was a lone ranger for the Suns on Thursday while the rest of his team couldn't get it going. He's been fighting the funk lately, but Booker was finally able to get it going against one of the tougher defenses in the NBA. Booker will continue to get good looks in the Suns' offense which is desperate for production. Look for Booker to continue this hot streak for the rest of the season.

Update: Booker poured in 15 points (6-16 FG, 2-9 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds and two assists over 38 minutes in Saturday's 111-106 victory over the Grizzlies.

Analysis: The 19-year-old's solid stat line could have potentially been even better had he not fouled out with 3:50 left in the game. It marked the second time in the last three contests that Booker was whistled off the court, although on this occasion Booker salvaged the night with his best scoring total in the last five contests. Despite providing solid production in February, Booker's overall performance has suffered a bit of a downturn when compared to his January numbers. Booker was averaging 13.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.1 blocks and 0.8 steals in February coming into Saturday, with the scoring average representing a four-point decrease from his January figure in that category.

Update: Booker scored 23 points (9-13 FG, 5-8 3Pt) and added one rebound and a steal for the United States squad in their 157-154 triumph over the World team in Friday's Rising Stars Challenge.

Analysis: A late addition to the game as a replacement for the injured Nerlens Noel (knee), Booker might have actually been a better fit for the United States squad, as the wide-open, defense-optional nature of the contest was well suited for the shooting guard's skill set. Booker, who will also compete in Saturday's 3-Point Shootout contest, gave the Toronto crowd a preview of what's to come by knocking down more than half his shots from the outside.

Update: Booker finished with 15 points (5-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 4-6 FT) and 10 assists in 42 minutes during Wednesday's loss to the Warriors.

Analysis: Booker is back on track after his six point performance Monday against the Thunder. The rookie recorded his first double-digit assist game and finished with a double-double. Booker clearly has the skills to make it in the NBA and should continue to see opportunities with Eric Bledsoe (knee) out for the rest of the season.

Update: Booker scored a team-high 18 points (6-14 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), and added three rebounds, an assist and a steal over 34 minutes in Saturday's 98-89 loss to the Jazz.

Analysis: The standout rookie put together an impressive performance against the Jazz's stingy defense, and has essentially been matchup-proof over his stretch of starts since Eric Bledsoe (knee) was lost for the season. He's now drained multiple threes in four straight games, and has posted identical 42 percent marks from behind the arc in February and for the season. Booker has gotten the month off to a strong start, averaging 20.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals over 37.3 minutes over three games.

Update: Booker provided 27 points (9-19 FG, 6-14 3Pt, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, and two steals in 37 minutes during the Suns' 104-97 loss versus the Raptors on Tuesday.

Analysis: Booker matched his career-high with six treys, and Suns' interim coach Earl Watson has expressed supreme confidence in his rookie. Booker has scored in double figures in 16 of the last 17 appearances, and he has also seen 32 or more minutes in 11 of those contests. His minutes aren't going anywhere with the Suns as banged up as they are, and if healthy Booker should be extremely serviceable in standard leagues for the remainder of the season.

Update: Booker had 19 points (6-15 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 5-5 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, and one block in 41 minutes during the Suns' 91-78 loss to the Mavericks on Sunday.

Analysis: Booker was the only Suns to player to score 15 points or more on Sunday, with Tyson Chandler and Alex Len the lone two players who managed to shoot 50 percent or better from the field. Booker committed four turnovers, and he doesn't have an attractive assist-to-turnover ratio. Regardless, he has scored in double figures in 15 of his last 16 games, and he will likely be relied on heavily to score the ball going forward on a Suns team lacking any offensive firepower.

Analysis: Booker has scored in double figures in seven straight contests, and in 15 of his past 16. The exciting 19-year-old rookie can flat-out score the ball, and he can also make plays for others. Over the last five games, Booker is averaging 17.6 points, 4.2 assists to 1.4 turnovers, two rebounds, two threes, and 0.4 steals in 35 minutes per appearance.

Update: Booker scored 16 points (4-9 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 7-8 FT) with five assists and three rebounds over 34 minutes in a 115-93 loss to the Cavaliers on Wednesday.

Analysis: Booker was feared to have been injured after rolling his ankle in the third quarter, but would return to action late in Wednesday's game. After exceeding five assists just once in 10 games from Jan. 2 to Jan. 23, Booker has now distributed at least five dimes in each of his last two games. While Booker isn't a prolific scorer by any stretch, he's quietly put together a formidable rookie campaign; scoring in the double-digits in each of his last six games.

Update: Booker contributed 12 points (5-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven assists, and four rebounds across 36 minutes in Tuesday's 113-103 loss to the 76ers.

Analysis: After producing 32 and 24 points in back-to-back games last week against the Pacers and Spurs, respectively, Booker's shooting has regressed over his last two games. During those contests, he's shot just 11-for-34 from the field and 4-for-12 from three-point range, but Booker has still managed to extend his streak of double-digit scoring to five games. He also set a career high with the seven assists, showing that he might have more diversity to his stat line than his season average of 1.3 assists would suggest.
