LAMAR PATTERSON (SG)
  • Jul 15 2016, 11:05 AM

Update: Patterson was claimed off waivers Thursday by the Kings, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Patterson was released by the Hawks after not being seen as a fit on their roster in his rookie season, and now the shooting guard will join a fairly crowded Sacramento backcourt till at least training camp. With the likes of Arron Afflalo, Ben Mclemore and rookie Malachi Richardson all in place at the shooting guard position, there's a good chance Patterson's stay in Sacramento could be a short one.

Update: Patterson will be recalled from the D-League's Austin Spurs and rejoin the Hawks in advance of Friday's Game 3 tilt with the Celtics, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Both Patterson and Walter Tavares had been shuttling between the Hawks and Austin while both teams competed in the postseason for their respective leagues. With Austin being eliminated with a loss Wednesday, Patterson now figures to stick with the Hawks for the rest of the season. However, he's buried on the depth chart and likely won't see much court time during the Hawks' playoff run.

Update: Patterson was assigned to the D-League's Austin Spurs on Wednesday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Patterson was able to get on the court for one minute during the Hawks' blowout win in Game 2 over the Celtics, but he'll be asked to assume more playing time for Austin in their D-League playoff series. The reserve guard should shuttle back and forth between the D-League squad and the Hawks until either team is eliminated from the postseason.

Update: Patterson was recalled from the D-League on Tuesday.

Analysis: While Patterson will be in uniform and available off the bench in Game 2, it's highly unlikely that the second-year guard sees the floor. Patterson appeared in only 35 games during the regular season and hasn't played in an NBA game since before the All-Star break.

Update: Patterson was assigned to the D-League's Austin Toros on Sunday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: The Toros remain in the midst of the D-League playoffs, so Patterson will join the squad for at least Sunday and Monday in order to aid their efforts. The Hawks will play the next game in their playoff series with the Celtics on Tuesday, so Patterson could conceivably be recalled on that day.

Update: Patterson was recalled from the D'League's Austin Spurs on Friday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: With Tim Hardaway dealing with a strained right hamstring, the Hawks wanted some extra insurance in the backcourt and will recall Patterson to fill that role in their playoff debut on Saturday. Even if Hardaway has to sit out, Patterson will still only serve as emergency depth and likely wouldn't see extended playing time.

Update: Patterson will remain with the Austin Toros during the D-League playoffs, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Both Patterson and center Walter Tavares will stay with Austin for as long as the team is alive in the D-League postseason, which kicks off Tuesday. The playoffs consist of three rounds with each a best-of-three series, so at the minimum, both players will remain away from the Hawks for at least another week-and-a-half.

Update: Patterson was assigned to the D-League's Austin Spurs on Monday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Patterson didn't log any appearances with the Hawks during his latest stint with the club. He could get some run over the final week of the season if the team's playoff position is solidified, but beyond that, don't expect Patterson to emerge as a member of the Hawks' rotation.

Analysis: Patterson was recalled by the Hawks on Monday from the Austin Spurs, although Atlanta didn't even play Monday night. Now on Tuesday, he is headed to the Canton Charge. Newly-acquired Kirk Hinrich will be serving as Atlanta's third-string point guard for the time being.

Analysis: Patterson made two appearances with Austin during his latest D-League stint, recording 28 points and 10 assists over the contests. He's now played in seven games with Austin this season, posting averages of 15.6 points, 5.7 assists, five rebounds, and one steal in 33.9 minutes. He'll likely struggle to see the court most nights now that he's back with the Hawks.

Update: Patterson missed his only field goal attempt (0-1 3Pt), but recorded one assist and one steal in two minutes during the Hawks' 113-90 win versus the Bulls on Wednesday.

Analysis: Patterson has bounced back and forth between the D-League and the NBA, appearing in seven of the Hawks' 20 games in January and February. He is not a part of the team's regular rotation, and fantasy owners can avoid him accordingly.

Analysis: Patterson was assigned to the D-League back on Jan. 13, and registered 20 points, nine assists, and five rebounds during his one-game stint with Austin. The swingman will likely assume a lightly-used role in the Hawks' bench rotation.

Update: Patterson was recalled from the D-League's Austin Spurs on Sunday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Patterson's latest D-League appearance lasted just one game, but he made the most of it, producing 19 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds in Saturday's game against Reno. Now that he's back with the Hawks, Patterson could struggle to earn consistent minutes in coach Mike Budenholzer's rotation now that Thabo Sefolosha and Kent Bazemore are both healthy.

Update: Patterson was assigned to the D-League on Saturday, Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Analysis: Patterson has bounced back and fourth from Austin to Atlanta and that won't likely change as the season continues. However, he's still averaging 14.5 minutes over 16 appearances for the Hawks this season while playing behind Thabo Sefolosha and Kent Bazemore, two players he won't likely be able to overpass for playing time.

Update: Patterson scored 10 points (3-5 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and added six rebounds, three assists, and a steal over 23 minutes in Tuesday's 121-97 win over the Celtics.

Analysis: Patterson has received at least 20 minutes of court time in each of the Hawks' last three games, which indicates that he's being viewed as the top backup at small forward behind Thabo Sefolosha, who is filling in for the injured Kent Bazemore (ankle). So long as Bazemore remains sidelined by the injury, look for Patterson to stick in the rotation, but until he shows more regular double-digit production in the points column, those in deeper leagues probably don't need to keep an especially close eye on him.

Update: Patterson was assigned to the D-League, the team announced Friday.

Analysis: After playing limited minutes in the Hawks' first seven games as the team dealt with backcourt injuries, Patterson hasn't played in the last three outings. As a result, he will play in the D-League to gain more experience on the court.

Update: Patterson was a DNP-CD in Atlanta's 117-107 loss to Minnesota on Monday

Analysis: The rookie shooting guard played in Atlanta's first seven games but he hasn't played in their two most recent matchups. The main reason why his playing time has slowly disappeared is because Thabo Sefolosha (ankle) has been coming back from his injury. Patterson is currently averaging 2.4 points per game coming off bench behind veterans Kent Bazemore and Sefolosha.
