WALTER TAVARES (C)
  • Jul 20 2016, 11:38 AM

Update: Tavares averaged 9.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in six Las Vegas Summer League games.

Analysis: The 7-foot-3 center connected on nearly 64 percent of his field goals, while grabbing at least seven rebounds in five of the Hawks' six games. While his massive size is intriguing, it remains somewhat unclear as to how far away Tavares is from truly contributing at the NBA level. Last season, Tavares appeared in only 11 games, spending most of the year in the D-League, where he put up 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.3 blocks in 21.6 minutes per game.

Update: Tavares will be recalled from the D-League's Austin Spurs and rejoin the Hawks on Friday in advance of their Game 3 tilt with the Celtics, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Both Tavares and Lamar Patterson had been shuttling between the Hawks and Austin while both teams competed in the postseason for their respective leagues. With Austin being eliminated with a loss Wednesday, Tavares now figures to stick with the Hawks for the rest of the season. The big man is unlikely to play much during the Hawks' playoff run, however, as has been the case all season in what's been a developmental year for Tavares.

Update: Tavares will remain with the Austin Toros throughout the D-League postseason, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Both Tavares and Lamar Patterson will remain in the D-League for as long as the Toros are alive. Austin enters the playoffs, which begin Tuesday, as the likely winner of their conference, meaning they'll face a Wild Card team in the first round. All rounds are best of three series, so Tavares and Patterson figures to remain away from the Hawks for another 7-10 days, at the minimum.

Update: Tavares was recalled from the D-League's Bakersfield Jam on Friday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: In his most recent game with Bakersfield on Thursday, Tavares finished with 12 points (6-9 FG), seven rebounds and four blocked shots over 31 minutes. He'll now return to the Hawks' roster and act as emergency depth at center behind the likes of Al Horford and Mike Muscala.

Update: Tavares was recalled from the D-League's Austin Spurs on Monday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Tavares' trip to the D-League lasted two games this time around, and he's now made 14 appearances on that circuit for the season. Over 12 games with Austin and two with the Canton Charge, Tavares is averaging 10.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks in 21 minutes. He'll rejoin the Hawks to provide some emergency depth at center while they embark on a five-game road trip that begins Tuesday against the Warriors.

Update: Tavares was assigned to the D-League on Friday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Tavares has spent several stints in the D-League this season, averaging 9.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. The 23-year-old has excellent size at 7-3, but he's unlikely to make an impact at the NBA level until next season, if not later.

Update: Tavares was recalled from the D-League on Friday, Chris Vivlamore of the AJC reports.

Analysis: After being assigned to the D-League earlier in the week, Tavares was recalled by the Hawks on Friday--the first day of the All-Star break. Whether on not he will stick with the Hawks through the break remains to be seen, but there could be reserve minutes available if Tiago Splitter undergoes surgery on his injured hip.

Update: Tavares was assigned to the D-League on Monday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Tiago Splitter (hip) still remains out through the All-Star break, but with Mike Muscala in the fold, the Hawks haven't required Tavares' services in either of the past two games. As a result, Tavares will head back to the D-League for a seventh time this season to pick up some more consistent minutes.

Update: Tavares has been recalled from the D-League's Austin Spurs.

Analysis: Tavares has bounced between the Hawks and the D-League as of late. It's unclear if he'll play much if at all now that he's been brought up. So far this season Tavares has appeared in just eight games and averaged only 7.3 minutes, so he shouldn't be looked to for much if any fantasy output.

Update: Tavares is expected to be recalled from the D-League's Austin Spurs on Sunday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Tavares missed Austin's most recent game due to a bruised hip, but he's been deemed fully healthy and will soon rejoin the Hawks. He's appeared in just eight NBA games during his first season in the league, averaging 2.4 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.3 minutes.

Update: Tavares was assigned to the D-League on Wednesday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: The Hawks are without their own D-League squad, but in nine games between Austin and Canton this season, Tavares has averaged 10.9 points (on 69 percent shooting), 10.6 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, and 0.7 steals in 23 minutes.

Update: Tavares was recalled from the D-Leagues's Austin Spurs on Sunday.

Analysis: In his most recent game with Austin on Saturday, Tavares finished with 10 points (5-7 FG), seven rebounds and one assist over 20 minutes. He'll rejoin the Hawks for their game against the Magic on Monday, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him re-assigned to the D-League shortly after that outing.

Update: Tavares was reassigned to the D-League on Wednesday, KL Chouinard of Hawks.com reports.

Analysis: Tavares has only seen time in seven games for the Hawks in what's ultimately viewed as a developmental season for the 23-year-old native of the Canary Islands. At 7-3, he certainly has an intriguing frame, but he's going to require a fair amount of development before making a significant impact at the NBA level.

Update: Tavares played 15 minutes in Sunday's 111-97 loss to the Knicks, finishing with four points (2-4 FG, 0-2 FT), four rebounds, and three blocks.

Analysis: The long-limbed Tavares showcased some good shot-blocking ability in his limited minutes, and that skill may allow him to hold down a rotation spot throughout the duration of Tiago Splitter's absence due to a calf injury. However, once Splitter is back in action, Tavares' minutes may evaporate completely.

Update: Tavares has been recalled from Austin of the D-League on Thursday, K.L. Chouinard of Hawks.com reports.

Analysis: In his most recent game with Austin, Tavares posted five points (1-5 FG, 3-6 FT), 13 rebounds and four blocked shots over 26 minutes. He'll return to the Hawks' active roster Thursday, but is only expected to serve as emergency depth in the frontcourt considering he's played in only five games with the Hawks so far this season.

Update: Tavares was assigned to the D-League's Austin Spurs on Wednesday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: After receiving very little playing time so far this season with the Hawks, Tavares has once again been sent back to the D-League to pick up additional minutes. Tavares surprisingly did see the court for 10 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Rockets, notching six points and six rebounds, but it's unlikely he'll become a regular part of Atlanta's rotation when he returns from the D-League.

Update: Tavares was recalled from the D-League on Monday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Tavares just finished off a two-game stint in the D-League to pick up playing time, but he'll likely be forced to settle for little to no minutes now that he's back with the Hawks. He's appeared in just four games for the NBA squad this season.

Update: Tavares was recalled from the D-League's Canton Charge on Sunday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis: Tavares has appeared in more games at the D-League level (four) than with the Hawks (three) this season. He's unlikely to see meaningful minutes with the Hawks unless an array of injuries hit the frontcourt.
