AMAR'E STOUDEMIRE (C)
  • Jul 26 2016, 13:12 PM

Update: Stoudemire announced his retirement Tuesday from the NBA.

Analysis: Though his peak years came with the Suns, Stoudemire opted to sign a one-day contract to retire with the Knicks, with whom he played from 2010 through 2015 after signing a five-year, $99.7 million contract. Stoudemire, 33, was an All-Star in six of his 14 NBA seasons, earning All-NBA First- or Second-Team honors on five occasions. Despite being slowed by knee issues for much of the final third of his career, Stoudemire finished with averages of 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game over 846 appearances with the Suns, Knicks, Mavericks and Heat.

Update: Stoudemire (coach's decision) didn't play in Friday's 103-91 Game 6 win over the Raptors.

Analysis: The writing was on the wall for Stoudemire to fall out of the rotation when he was sent to the bench for Game 6 after starting the previous two games. Though the Heat are thin in the frontcourt with Chris Bosh (blood clots) out for the postseason and Hassan Whiteside (knee) possibly in line for a similar fate, it appears coach Erik Spoelstra is content to lean on the small-ball lineups that were successful in Friday's win.

Update: Stoudemire will draw the start in Monday's Game 4 against the Raptors, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Analysis: This was considered the most likely option for the Heat to go with Hassan Whiteside sidelined. Stoudamire's role has been limited in the series thus far, playing just 5.3 minutes in three games. However, when Whiteside missed a two-week stretch back in January, Stoudamire saw his minutes jump to 22.4 minutes per game. In total, he posted 9.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks during that six game stretch. While he is physically limited, Stoudamire has shown he is capable of putting together a respectable workload in the 20 minute range.

Update: Stoudemire scored four points (2-2 FG) and grabbed a rebound in eight minutes during Tuesday's 102-96 overtime win over the Heat in Game 1 of the series.

Analysis: After being dropped from the rotation in the last three games, Stoudemire resurfaced off the bench as coach Erik Spoelstra attempted to slow down Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas, who went off for 24 points and 14 boards. Hassan Whiteside (39 minutes) still saw the bulk of the court time at center for the Heat, so don't count on Stoudemire's role expanding much from here.

Update: Stoudemire (coach's decision) didn't play in Sunday's 118-96 win over the Magic.

Analysis: Stoudemire was dropped from the starting lineup following a 36-game run on the top unit, as coach Erik Spoelstra handed the starting duties at center back to Hassan Whiteside. The switch wasn't expected to result in a dramatic change in minutes for either player, as Whiteside had been dominating the court time at the position even while coming off the bench, but it was surprising that Stoudemire failed to see the floor Sunday. Now that he's back in a reserve role, Stoudemire may have to vie with Josh McRoberts and Udonis Haslem for a rotation spot.

Update: Stoudemire will come off the bench for Sunday's game against the Magic.

Analysis: Stoudemire has seen his minutes decrease lately, now averaging just under 14 minutes over his last five games. Expect that trend to continue Sunday, as Hassan Whiteside will take over the starting center position. Stoudemire will return to the bench and will likely find it hard to see significant minutes, therefore limiting his fantasy upside.

Update: Stoudemire piled on a season-high 16 points (6-8 FG, 4-4 FT) with nine rebounds and two blocks over just 15 minutes in Tuesday's 113-99 win against the Pelicans.

Analysis: Stoudemire looked like his old self by posting more than a point per minute in a blowout win on the road. He hasn't attempted many shots, but Amar'e is still shooting 68.4 percent from the field over 11 games in March. Don't expect much out of Stoudemire Wednesday against the Spurs, especially on such short rest.

Update: Stoudemire tallied eight points (4-7 FG), seven rebounds, two assists, and one block across 22 minutes in Sunday's 98-81 win over the Knicks.

Analysis: Stoudemire has started each of the last 16 games at center, as coach Erik Spoelstra seems to be fully invested in the idea of bringing Hassan Whiteside off the bench. Whiteside routinely sees more court time than Stoudemire despite coming off the bench, and that figures to continue limiting Stoudemire's upside both in daily and season-long formats. During his 16-start run, Stoudemire has scored double-digit points and recorded double-digit rebounds on just three occasions apiece.

Update: Stoudemire will get the start Saturday against the Wizards, the Palm Beach Post's Jason Lieser reports.

Analysis: Hassan Whiteside will come off the bench after serving a suspension, so it is unclear how many minutes Stoudemire will see, but it will likely be much less run than a typical starter receives. He is always capable of scoring in double figures, but he is a very high variance play in daily leagues.

Update: Stoudemire had two points (1-2 FG), eight rebounds, and one assist in 16 minutes during the Heat's 100-93 loss against the Clippers on Sunday.

Analysis: Stoudmire continues to start alongside Chris Bosh despite Hassan Whiteside's return to the lineup a few games ago. It's unclear if this is something that will continue going forward for the remainder of the season, but it isn't resulting in Stoudemire seeing enough time to warrant much attention in fantasy.

Update: Stoudemire will remain in the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Clippers, Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post reports.

Analysis: The Heat will bring Hassan Whiteside off the bench for the third game in a row, as they continue to ease him back into action after his oblique injury. With that being said, Stoudemire will run with the starters again on Sunday. Stoudemire has seen just 17 and 16 minutes over his last two games respectively while Whiteside was available off the bench, so look for the Heat to keep his minutes in the mid-to-high teens again on Sunday. Stoudemire should eventually move back to a bench role when Whiteside has returned to full health.

Update: Stoudemire will start again Friday against the Hornets, Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post reports.

Analysis: Hassan Whiteside will come off the bench for the second straight game as he continues to work back toward full strength after missing six games with an oblique injury. As such, the veteran Stoudemire will remain in a starting role Friday, though he's unlikely to see more than 20-25 minutes. Whiteside figures to return to a starting role at some point, though coach Erik Spoelstra declined to elaborate on his plans for the center spot beyond Friday.

Update: Stoudemire continues to show signs of life, scoring 14 points (6-12 FG, 2-2 FT) to go along with 10 rebounds during 24 minutes in Tuesday's 115-102 loss to the Rockets.

Analysis: Amar'e knows that he doesn't have much time left in the league and is beginning to turn back the clock. He's posted back-to-back double-doubles and is consistently getting 20+ minutes a game with Hassan Whiteside out. The veteran forward shoulder definitely be owned in all deeper leagues until Whiteside is healthy.

Update: Stoudemire was in the starting lineup and recorded a double-double with 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-4 FT) and 12 rebounds to go along with three steals and a block in just 21 minutes of Sunday's win over the Hawks.

Analysis: The veteran was starting again for the injured Hassan Whiteside and came through with a very efficient performance despite seeing rather limited playing time. Stoudemire has shown the ability to make a modest fantasy impact in an expanded role, but his playing-time restrictions generally put a firm cap on his production, as the double-double was his first of the season. Whiteside is unlikely to play in the team's next game Tuesday, so another start could be in store for Stoudemire, although what value he has generated will likely be nullified when the former returns.

Update: Stoudemire is in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Hawks.

Analysis: With Hassan Whiteside still sidelined because of an oblique injury, the Heat will keep Stoudemire in the starting lineup against the Hawks. Over his last three games as a starter, Stoudemire has averaged eight points, 8.3 rebounds and one assist over 24 minutes. Look for a similar minutes load again on Sunday.

Update: Stoudemire will start Friday against the Bucks, Jason Lieser of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Analysis: Coach Erik Spoelstra stated before the game that he would stick with his current lineup construction that includes Stoudemire while Hassan Whiteside (hip) is sidelined. Thus, Stoudemire will make a strong play in daily formats Friday with the added bonus of being a potential waiver wire target in season-long leagues if Whiteside continues to be sidelined.

Update: Stoudemire scored eight points (3-7 FG, 2-2 FT) to go with 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and a block over 26 minutes in an 89-84 victory over the Bulls on Monday.

Analysis: Stoudemire made his second consecutive start in place of Hassan Whiteside (hip), and thanks to the many injuries up and down the Heat roster, the 33-year-old saw a season-high total in minutes. Even so, this is probably about as good as it's going to get for Stoudemire, whose chronic knee problems make it unlikely that he'll regularly play more than 25 minutes this season, even if Whiteside's absence lasts longer than anticipated.

Update: Stoudemire will draw his first start of the season Monday versus the Bulls, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Analysis: With Hassan Whiteside out, the Heat have opted to start Amar'e Stoudemire at center Monday. He has been getting more playing time recently due to a rash of injuries on the Heat roster. Over the past four games Stoudemire's posting 6.8 points and 2.5 rebounds over 14.7 minutes per game. He should see as big of a workload as he has seen all year on Monday. He really only holds daily league value while Whiteside is out.

Update: Stoudemire posted two points (2-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 14 minutes during the Heat's 99-74 loss to the Thunder on Sunday.

Analysis: Stoudemire is barely cracking the Heat rotation this season. Over the last four games, he has averages of 3.8 points, two rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks in eight minutes per contest. He is seeing fewer than 10 minutes per appearance in this his 14th season, and it's hard to envision a scenario where he becomes worthy of consideration in fantasy again without a serious increase in opportunities.

Update: Stoudemire scored six points (1-2 FG, 4-6 FT) and added three rebounds, two steals, and one block over 13 minutes in Tuesday's 99-90 overtime loss to the Grizzlies.

Analysis: More notable that Stoudemire's modest stat line was the fact that he played in the Heat's third consecutive game, which have all come over a four-game span. The veteran big man had been plagued by knee issues throughout the first month and a half of the season, but his increased appearances of late seem to suggest he's finally feeling healthy. Even so, the Heat probably aren't looking to increase Stoudemire's role behind Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside, so his days of regularly hitting double digits in the scoring column are probably over.
