OTTO PORTER (SF)
  • Jul 26 2016, 09:35 AM

Update: Porter isn't expected to come to terms with the Wizards on a contract extension before the upcoming season, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.

Analysis: Porter's rookie-scale contract will come to an end next summer, so he'll become a restricted free agent at that time if he doesn't reach agreement on an extension. The former No. 3 overall pick is projected to start at small forward again in 2016-17 after turning in career-best production last season. He averaged 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.3 three-pointers across 30.3 minutes per game during his third NBA campaign.

Update: Porter had a breakout year after becoming the full-time starter, averaging 11.6 points per game.

Analysis: Porter saw his role increase during the 2015-16 season to full-time starter after the departure of Paul Pierce this past offseason. The added responsibility and minutes naturally led to an increase in production, going from 6.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest during the 2014-15 season to 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season. The third-year pro played in all but seven games, only missing three in December with a bruised thigh and four games in January with hip soreness. Unless Washington makes a big offseason acquisition, Porter will remain the starter and should be taken in the mid rounds of standard league drafts.

Update: Porter scored 20 points (8-11 FG, 4-7 3Pt) to go with four assists and one rebound in 28 minutes during Wednesday's loss to the Kings.

Analysis: It was Porter's highest scoring total in 11 games and just the third time he's made four three pointers all season. Porter has exhibited a nice shooting touch from distance at times and his efficiency on offense usually dictates his production.

Update: Porter provided 14 points (6-13 FG, 2-3 3Pt), 13 rebounds, one assist, and one block across 45 minutes during the Wizards' 132-129 double overtime loss to the Timberwolves on Friday.

Analysis: Porter has scored in double figures in eight straight games after managing only 28 points through the first five contests in March. This was his second double-double in the last three games, and his fifth of 2015-16. Porter is averaging 14.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, two threes, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 36 minutes over his last eight showings.

Update: Porter finished with 16 points (6-15 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot in 36 minutes during Monday's win against the Hawks.

Analysis: This punctuates an impressive stretch for Porter, who is now averaging 15.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 steals over his last six contests. It's the sixth time he's grabbed double-digit rebounds and the 15th time he's registered stats across all five major categories. At just 22 years old, he is finally beginning to show flashes of promise and should continue to improve with this group in Washington.

Update: Porter netted 23 points (8-16 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 5-6 FT), two rebounds, an assist, and a career-high five steals in 33 minutes during Saturday's loss to the Nuggets.

Analysis: It was a much needed scoring binge for Porter, who had recorded single-digit scoring outings in his previous five games. The third-year swingman has had the opportunities with Bradley Beal (pelvis) still out but hasn't produced must until tonight. His season high in steals were also a nice touch and production outside of scoring and occasionally rebounding would add to his value.

Update: Porter co-led the Wizards with 21 points (6-9 FG, 5-7 FT, 4-6 3Pt) to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a block in just 27 minutes during Sunday's win over the Cavs.

Analysis: The third-year pro woke up after a string of four straight single-digit outputs, draining four treys after hitting just two during that same span. Porter remains capable of providing useful fantasy numbers on a given night, but his ascent in the ranks has been hindered by his inconsistency. He has been rather streaky as a scorer this season, so perhaps Sunday's momentum could translate into a productive run.

Update: Porter posted 14 points (6-15 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, two assists, one block, and a steal in 38 minutes in Thursday's 99-92 loss to the Bucks.

Analysis: Porter continues to play well after returning from hip injury that kept him out four games in late January. He has scored over 13 points in each of the past three games as his minutes continue to rise. He'll look to the All-Star break to continue to get back to full strength.

Update: Porter (hip) is in the starting five Saturday at Houston, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Analysis: Porter suffered a setback with his hip injury Thursday, resulting in merely 15 minutes of court time. However, he'll assume his typical spot at small forward in the Wizards' top lineup.

Update: Porter (hip) expects to play Saturday versus Saturday versus the Rockets, J. Michael of CSNMidAtlantic.com reports.

Analysis: After missing four games due to a hip injury, Porter suffered a setback in his third game back Thursday. He was only able to play 15 minutes before exiting the game with hip tightness. However, Porter was able to through the team's shootaround Saturday morning, and indicated he expects to play versus the Rockets. While it is obviously a good sign that he expects to play, owners should be cautious with the young sharp-shooter as it is always possible his hip could act up again.

Update: Porter didn't return to Thursday's 117-113 loss to the Nuggets after departing in the third quarter with right hip tightness.

Analysis: The Wizards initially labeled Porter as questionable to return after he suffered the injury, but the team unsurprising opted to hold him out, given that he had recently returned from a five-game absence due to a slight labrum tear in the same hip. Injuries have been somewhat of an issue for Porter in what has otherwise been a career-best season, and there's a definite possibility that his latest setback could cause him to miss more time. The Wizards haven't offered much information regarding the severity of the injury he suffered Thursday, but an update on his condition should be provided by the team prior to Saturday's tilt with the Rockets.

Update: Porter is questionable to return to Thursday's matchup with the Nuggets due to hip tightness, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports.

Analysis: After missing five consecutive games due to a torn labrum in his right hip, Porter has played in the previous two contests for Washington. Unfortunately, his hip is acting up and he is questionable to return. It is unclear the severity of the situation, but expect an update on his status when more information becomes available.

Update: Porter scored 15 points (7-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt) while tallying eight rebounds and four steals over 36 minutes in Tuesday's 106-89 loss to the Raptors.

Analysis: Porter came back from a hip injury last night and posted a similar stat line, which shows that he's healthy enough to battle through a tough back-to-back set. He played a nice in-and-out game, though he only attempted two 3-point shots. The Wizards have struggled, but have a couple of soft matchups on the horizon that could help their stale offense.

Update: Porter (hip) scored 15 points (6-11 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT) with six rebounds and two assists over 30 minutes in Monday's 116-91 loss to the Celtics.

Analysis: Porter returned to the lineup after missing four games with a hip ailment and didn't look too bad while matching up against Jae Crowder and the Celtics. Though he didn't look out of place Monday, Porter is still working his way back and it would be tough to call upon him in daily formats in the second game of a back-to-back set Tuesday against the Raptors.

Update: Porter (hip) will return to the starting lineup for Monday's game against Boston, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports.

Analysis: Porter has missed the last three games with a right hip injury, and was cleared to play Monday, though it was unclear how much time he'd get. It's now clear that Porter will start and Kelly Oubre will return to his bench role. Porter is still unlikely to get a large load of minutes in his first game back, meaning Oubre will likely see a boost in minutes coming off the bench.

Update: Porter (hip) will be available to play Monday against the Celtics, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

Analysis: Porter, who has sat out the last three games with a right hip injury that he clarified was an aggravated labrum tear, was cleared to return to the court after completing the Wizards' morning shootaround without any issue. Though Porter is set to return, it remains uncertain if he'll slot back into the starting five in place of Kelly Oubre, who has been filling in at small forward during Porter's absence. Regardless of how he's deployed, Porter is unlikely to play heavy minutes, according to J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic, so he won't make for a particularly attractive option in daily formats.

Update: Porter (hip) went through practice Friday, although with some limitations, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports.

Analysis: Porter has sat out the last four games because of a lingering hip injury. He was able to go through portions of practice on Friday, although he still hasn't participated in full. He remains without a concrete timetable for a return, but the Wizards' next game is on Saturday versus the Celtics, so consider Porter questionable for that outing at this point in time. We should see his status updated following Saturday morning's shootaround.

Update: Porter (hip) will be held out of Monday's game against the Trail Blazers, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.

Analysis: Porter continues to battle soreness in his right hip, and he'll miss a third consecutive game as the Wizards attempt to rebound from a loss to Boston on Saturday. Rookie Kelly Oubre got the start at small forward in Porter's place Saturday, and coach Randy Wittman will likely go with the same lineup Monday. Porter told The Washington Post's Jorge Castillo that he's still being viewed as 'day-to-day' with the hip injury, so there's a chance the forward could be available for the Wizards' next game Wednesday against the Heat.
