C.J. WILCOX (SG)
  • Jul 14 2016, 19:43 PM

Update: Wilcox (hand) will be traded to the Magic in exchange for Devyn Marble and a 2020 second-round pick, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Analysis: The Magic will also receive a sum of cash in the deal. Since entering the league as the 28th selection in the 2014 draft, Wilcox has been quiet, appearing in only 44 games and averaging only 3.0 points per game. The third-year guard will likely land a reserve role with Orlando, playing behind Evan Fournier and potentially splitting minutes with newly-acquired Jodie Meeks. The Magic will hope that Wilcox, a career 38-percent three-point shooter, can provide range in the backcourt, as they shot only 35-percent from three as a team in 2015-16.

Update: Wilcox tallied 19 points (8-13 FG, 3-6 3Pt), three rebounds, an assist and a block over 29 minutes in Wednesday's 114-105 season-ending loss to the Suns.

Analysis: The second-year pro reached a new high-water mark in minutes, and utilized them to post a career-high scoring total. Wilcox's opportunities throughout the season have been significantly limited while playing behind J.J. Redick and Jamal Crawford, but he received double-digit minutes in three of the last five games. However, it would be highly unlikely for him to receive a spot on the postseason rotation, considering that the more experienced and accomplished Austin Rivers is able to slide over to shooting guard behind Crawford whenever necessary.

Update: Wilcox played a season-high 25 minutes in Wednesday's 91-81 win over the Lakers, contributing six points (2-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt), three steals, two assists, and a rebound.

Analysis: The Clippers were resting Jamal Crawford, Wesley Johnson, and Austin Rivers for the second half of the back-to-back set and backcourt starters Chris Paul and J.J. Redick each played less than 25 minutes, leaving more court time available off the bench for Wilcox, who has struggled to see the floor in his first two seasons. While he won't be guaranteed to see playing time at Wednesday's level in the Clippers' final four regular-season games, Wilcox should at least get off the bench in all of them, as the team is locked into the fourth seed in the Western Conference playoffs and has little to gain by overexerting its starters before the postseason kicks off.

Update: Wilcox was recalled from the D-League's Canton Charge on Monday, Rowan Kavner of Clippers.com reports.

Analysis: Wilcox averaged 21.7 points in his most recent three-game stint with the Charge. Despite his success at the D-League level, Wilcox is unlikely to see major minutes with the Clippers barring a string of injuries in the backcourt.

Update: Wilcox was recalled from the D-League on Monday, Ben Bolch of the LA Times reports.

Analysis: Both Wilcox and Branden Dawson were back with the Clippers on Monday night, but neither player was active for the team's matchup with Portland. Wilcox has appeared in seven games for the Bakersfield Jam this season, averaging 19.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 50.5 percent from the field in 35.4 minutes per game.

Update: Wilcox will be sent down to D-League Bakersfield on Thursday, Dan Woike of the Orange County Register reports.

Analysis: Wilcox was drafted into a tough position in the first round of 2014's NBA draft, as the Clippers' backcourt contains such names as Chris Paul, J.J. Redick, Jamal Crawford, and Austin Rivers, all of whom Wilcox had to compete with for minutes. Wilcox will not be a relevant factor in fantasy this season.
