AARON BROOKS (PG)
  • Jul 18 2016, 12:02 PM

Update: Brooks agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Pacers on Monday, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis: The eight-year veteran has spent the last two seasons backing up Derrick Rose with the Bulls and is coming off a 2015-16 campaign where he posted averages of 7.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists over 16 minutes per game. Brooks will join the Pacers as depth at point guard and will likely share a backup role with Rodney Stuckey. However, Brooks shouldn't see a huge jump in minutes despite the change in scenery, so his fantasy value may remain a bit restricted.

Update: Brooks played 69 games for the Bulls in the 2015-16 season and averaged 7.1 points, 2.6 assists, 1.0 three-pointers and 0.4 steals over 16.1 minutes per game. He shot 40.1 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from behind the arc and 76.6 percent from the charity stripe.

Analysis: Brooks provided the Bulls with a veteran backup off the bench, but wasn't a major contributor even with starter Derrick Rose battling injuries throughout the season. The veteran backup is a free agent this summer and isn't likely to rejoin the Bulls with newly acquired point guards Jose Calderon, Jerian Grant and Spencer Dinwiddie all under contract.

Update: Brooks came off the bench to provide 16 points (7-10 FG, 2-2 3Pt), six assists, four rebounds and a steal in 23 minutes during Monday's loss to the Hawks.

Analysis: The veteran was a spark off the bench Monday, as he scored his most points since the first of the month and delivered his highest assist total during that span as well. Despite Monday's performance, Brooks remains a reserve option and will likely continue to provide inconsistent production from game to game.

Update: Brooks contributed two points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 0-2 FT), six assists, three rebounds, and one steal in 15 minutes during the Bulls' 109-102 victory versus the Kings on Monday.

Analysis: Brooks committed two turnovers, but it was a decent performance in limited playing time. With Kirk Hinrich no longer on the roster, Brooks is the lone backup point guard for the Bulls. Still, Derrick Rose has been playing well lately, and Brooks likely won't see many minutes unless Rose suffers an injury.

Update: Brooks (knee) will be available Wednesday against the Spurs, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis: Brooks was dealing with right knee tendinitis that limited him to only four minutes Monday against the Bucks, but after taking it easy in practice the last two days, he'll be available off the bench Thursday. The backup point guard's fantasy value in most formats is very limited, as he closed February averaging just 15.2 minutes.

Update: Brooks (knee) was spotted putting up shots at Tuesday's practice, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis: The veteran relayed that the right knee tendinitis that knocked him out of Monday's win over the Bucks isn't anything too concerning, so there seems to be a strong likelihood that he'll be available for Thursday's tilt with the Spurs. We'll continue to list Brooks on the injury report until the Bulls formally clear him to play.

Update: Brooks will not return to Monday's matchup with the Bucks due to right patellar tendonitis, Nick Friedell of ESPN Chicago reports.

Analysis: The severity of this injury is still unknown, so Brooks will have to be considered day-to-day going forward. He left Monday's game with only one turnover in four minutes of action. His next opportunity to play will be Thursday against the Spurs. Expect an update on his status when more information becomes available.

Update: Brooks provided 16 points (5-15 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 3-5 FT), two rebounds, and one assist across 22 minutes in Tuesday's 129-111 loss to the Heat.

Analysis: Though Derrick Rose (knee) was back in action following a brief absence, Brooks actually saw his court time rise from the previous game, as coach Fred Hoiberg elected to reduce E'Twaun Moore's minutes. It's uncertain if this will become a trend, however, and Brooks didn't exactly restore much confidence in his abilities by sinking only one third of his shots. At this point, it's probably wise to just let Brooks sit on the wire for now in most formats, as this was only his second double-digit scoring outing in his last 15 games.

Update: Brooks contributed nine points (4-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt), two rebounds, and one steal in 13 minutes during the Bulls' 113-90 loss to the Hawks on Wednesday.

Analysis: Brooks is averaging 4.4 points, two assists, 1.2 rebounds, 0.6 blocks, and 0.4 steals in 14 minutes per appearance over the last five games heading into the All-Star break--all of which are just below his season averages. The 6-0, 31-year-old point guard can fill it up on offense if given substantial time, but it will probably take an injury to Derrick Rose for Brooks to be reliable for fantasy purposes.

Update: Brooks scored 13 points (5-12 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT) to go with six assists, three steals, and two rebounds over 33 minutes in an 89-84 loss to the Heat on Monday.

Analysis: Derrick Rose departed Monday's game with lower back and right hamstring injuries, paving the way for Brooks to gain increased court time in the second half. While the jury is still out on the extent of Rose's injury, the Bulls are also dealing with injuries to Kirk Hinrich (quad) and E'Twaun Moore (hamstring). Brooks hasn't posted noteworthy fantasy numbers this season, but he could be a sneaky DFS play if Rose misses Thursday's matchup against the Lakers.

Update: Brooks recorded six points (3-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 10 assists, two rebounds, and one steal across 21 minutes in Monday's 111-101 win over the Pistons.

Analysis: With starting point guard Derrick Rose limited to 27 minutes Monday and Kirk Hinrich (quad) unavailable, Brooks saw some added run off the bench and was able to parlay it into his highest assist total of the season. Brooks may continue to rank as the Bulls' top point guard off the bench once Hinrich returns, but since Rose usually plays over 30 minutes per contests, there's little opportunity for Brooks to post notable numbers.

Update: Brooks produced five points (2-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt), six rebounds, and two assists across 25 minutes in Sunday's 115-113 win over the Raptors.

Analysis: Predictably, Brooks has fallen back to earth since exploding for 29 points over 41 minutes in Wednesday's game against the Pacers. In fact, he's failed to even provide half that level of production in his last two contests, collecting a combined 12 points in 38 minutes. Brooks still has more scoring upside than Kirk Hinrich, who has been filling in as the starting point guard while Derrick Rose (knee, hamstring) remains sidelined, but because Brooks can't be counted on to see regular playing time, he's a very volatile fantasy option.

Update: Brooks contributed 29 points (11-20 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), five assists, one rebound, and one steal in 41 minutes during the Bulls' 102-100 overtime win over the Pacers on Wednesday.

Analysis: Brooks came off the bench behind Kirk Hinrich with Derrick Rose (hamstring) sitting out, but it was Brooks who scored a game-high 29 points while playing the second most minutes on the team behind Jimmy Butler. Hinrich meanwhile saw only 13 minutes of action. Brooks is the much better offensive player, but Hinrich has the defensive savvy Brooks doesn't, so it's hard to be sure what Bulls' coach Fred Holberg will opt for if Rose is forced to miss Friday's game against the Knicks.

Update: Brooks scored 17 points (6-11 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT) while adding three assists and a rebound in just 19 minutes off the bench during Saturday's win over the Pelicans.

Analysis: After not seeing the court in three straight games, Brooks has responded with 27 points in 40 minutes over the last two contests, both Bulls wins. His November hamstring injury might have has something to do with that lack of usage, but he appears to be healthy now and Fred Hoiberg will likely keep feeding him minutes as long as he's providing an offensive spark on the second unit.

Update: Brooks (coach's decision) didn't leave the bench for the third straight game in a 105-100 loss to the Celtics on Wednesday.

Analysis: Though he's healthy now after missing multiple games in late November and early December with a hamstring injury, Brooks finds himself fourth on the depth chart at point guard behind Derrick Rose, Kirk Hinrich, and E'Twaun Moore. Unless one of the players above him suffers an injury, Brooks doesn't figure to get run off the bench on most occasions.

Update: Brooks (hamstring) returned from a four-game absence in Wednesday's win over the Nuggets and posted two points (0-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-3 FT), three assists, two rebounds, and one block in nine minutes.

Analysis: Even with Kirk Hinrich (hip) still sidelined, Brooks saw fewer minutes than starter Derrick Rose (37 minutes) and backup E'Twaun Moore (11 minutes) at point guard. For the time being, it looks like Brooks will have to settle for a third-string role now that he's healthy. He'll only see things open up for him if Derrick Rose were to miss time at some point.

Update: Brooks (hamstring) will be a game-time call for Wednesday's matchup with the Nuggets, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis: Brooks has missed the last four games with a left hamstring strain and remained limited at practice Tuesday. While reports Tuesday afternoon suggested that Brooks would likely be held out, he's been upgraded to questionable, though a final ruling likely won't come until just before tip off. If Brooks is ultimately ruled out, E'Twaun Moore figures to see increased minutes off the bench, particularly with Kirk Hinrich (hip) unlikely to play.

Update: Brooks (hamstring) was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice, but will most likely sit out on Wednesday against the Nuggets, Nick Friedell of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Brooks has missed five of the last six contests for the Bulls, battling a strain in his left hamstring. With Kirk Hinrich (hip) likely to miss Wednesday's game as well, E'Twaun Moore will likely pick up the lion's share of the minutes at backup point guard.

Update: Brooks (hamstring) has been ruled out of Monday's matchup with the Spurs, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis: Brooks has reportedly been showing some improvement recently, but considering he was ruled out for a game a day in advance, it could mean he's still further away from a return than originally believed. His next opportunity to play will be Wednesday versus the Nuggets, but don't be surprised to see him sit again as he continues to work back from the hamstring injury. With Kirk Hinrich also questionable for Monday's game with a hip pointer, E'Twaun Moore could see a ton of extra minutes as the Bulls' backup point guard.

Update: Brooks (hamstring) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Trail Blazers, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis: Brooks' hamstring has reportedly shown improvement in recent days, but he was still unable to practice Sunday, which resulted in the Bulls making the quick decision to rule him out. Coach Fred Hoiberg previously said a few days ago that Brooks would be out for the 'next couple games,' so expecting him back in time for Friday's tilt against the Pacers may prove to be overly optimistic.
