RUDY GOBERT (C)
  • Jul 12 2016, 07:56 AM

Update: Gobert (ankle) announced Monday that he will suit up for France in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Jody Genessy of Deseret News reports.

Analysis: The French national team was able to win its Olympic qualifier Sunday sans Gobert, but they'll have the Stifle Tower in the fold as the team looks to make a run in Rio. Gobert skipped out on France's qualifying games as a means of resting the injured right ankle he sustained late in the regular season with the Jazz, while also reducing his offseason workload in preparation of the 2016-17 campaign. He should be at full strength when the Olympics begin in August and will likely serve as France's starting center.

Update: Gobert (ankle) said he doesn't expect to play for France in the upcoming FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Kurt Kragthorpe of the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Analysis: Gobert suffered an ankle injury against Dallas on Monday and was held out of Wednesday's season finale loss to the Lakers. The ankle would likely be healed before the tournament, which begins July 4 in Belgrade, but it looks as though Gobert will lean toward getting extra rest. Gobert did note that he still intends to play for the national team should it qualify for the Rio Olympics later in the summer.

Update: Gobert (ankle) will not return to Monday's matchup with the Mavericks, Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Analysis: Gobert posted two points, six boards, and two assists in 12 minutes prior to exiting the game. He will likely be questionable heading into the season finale Wednesday. Given the importance of the game due to the playoff picture he will likely go if at all capable.

Update: Gobert (ankle) is questionable to return to Monday's matchup with the Jazz after suffering a sprained right ankle, Tim MacMahon of ESPN reports.

Analysis: Gobert exited the contest after 12 minutes of action. He posted two points, six boards, and two assists during that time frame. Given the importance of the matchup, if Gobert is capable of returning he likely will. However, if he cannot return he will likely be day-to-day heading into the season finale Wednesday against the Lakers.

Update: Gobert compiled 16 points (5-7 FG, 6-11 FT), 14 rebounds, six blocks, and one assist in 38 minutes during the Jazz's 100-84 win versus the Nuggets on Sunday.

Analysis: Gobert recorded his 20th double-double of the season on Sunday while taking over the game defensively. Monday's bout with Dallas will be pivotal for both squads as they race with Houston for the last two playoff spots up for grabs. Therefore, expect Gobert to get heavy minutes, especially if Derrick Favors is sidelined once again due to knee soreness.

Update: Gobert scored 10 points (4-4 FG, 2-6 FT) while adding 14 rebounds, three blocks and a steal in 36 minutes during Friday's win over the Timberwolves.

Analysis: He's now recorded double-doubles in back-to-back games, and Gobert has pulled down double-digit rebounds and multiple blocks in four straight. The third-year center has struggled to make an impact on offense recently, averaging just 6.7 points a game in March, but his 12.6 boards and 1.6 blocks a game on the month have allowed him to maintain some value.

Update: Gobert scored 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-4 FT) to go with 18 rebounds, two blocks, and two assists over 38 minutes in Wednesday's loss to the Warriors.

Analysis: Gobert has grabbed a whopping 37 rebounds in his last two games and is now sixth in the league in boards. It's actually the second time this month that The Stifle Tower has collected 18 or more rebounds in consecutive games. He's a monster on the glass and should continue to mop up for the remainder of the season.

Update: Gobert supplied eight points (3-8 FG, 2-4 FT), 19 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in 28 minutes during the Jazz's 123-75 win over the Lakers on Monday.

Analysis: Gobert was exceedingly impressive in just 28 minutes of action on Monday, as the Jazz blew out the Lakers. He matched his season high in rebounding, which occurred on Feb. 27 against the Nets, and even made a rare mid-range jump shot. Gobert is in the midst of his worst scoring month of the season, but is still managing averages of 6.4 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 29 minutes during March.

Update: Gobert scored 12 points (4-7 FG, 4-4 FT) while adding 14 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in 34 minutes during Sunday's win over the Bucks.

Analysis: While his scoring remains modest, Gobert has been a terror on the glass lately, averaging 12.8 boards along with 7.0 points and 1.5 blocks in 11 March games. He could have his hands full Wednesday, however, when the Jazz head to Houston to take on Dwight Howard and the Rockets.

Update: Gobert posted nine points (4-6 FG, 1-2 FT), 16 rebounds and three blocks over 30 minutes in Thursday's 103-69 victory over the Suns.

Analysis: Despite his sixth straight single-digit scoring effort, Gobert dominated on the glass once again. He's now tallied seven double-digit rebound games over the last eight, and is averaging a robust 13.3 boards per game over his nine March contests.

Update: Gobert scored five points (2-6 FG, 1-2 FT) but grabbed 18 rebounds while collecting two assists and two blocked shots over 36 minutes in Saturday's win.

Analysis: That's back-to-back 18-rebound performances for Gobert, who has been averaging a monstrous 15.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks over his last five games. While he only managed two shots Saturday, scoring is simply an added bonus when he's putting up rebounding numbers like this. Either way, he's been averaging 10.5 points over this five game tear.

Update: Gobert provided 13 points (3-5 FG, 7-10 FT), 18 rebounds, and five blocks in 38 minutes during the Jazz's 94-88 loss to the Grizzlies on Friday.

Analysis: Gobert was solid Friday, and he has been playing well despite the team's recent five-game skid. During these last five outings, Gobert is averaging 11 points, 12.6 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, 0.8 steals, and 0.6 assists across 33 minutes per game. The Jazz are right back in action on Saturday versus Anthony Davis and the Pelicans, who have proven to be a lackluster defensive squad over the course of the season.

  • Feb 28 2016, 00:38 AM

Update: Gobert posted 12 points (4-8 FG, 4-10 FT), 19 rebounds, a steal and six blocks across 35 minutes in Saturday's 98-96 loss to the Nets.

Analysis: The Stifle Tower unsurprisingly dominated on the glass against the Nets' vulnerable frontcourt, hauling in a season high in boards. The six blocks were also his second-best total in that category on the season, and impressively marked the fourth time in February that he's recorded at least four rejections in a game. Gobert rounded out the successful night with his first double-digit scoring performance in the last four games, and is largely developing into one of the most dominant young centers in the league. While his scoring upside is still limited, the 23-year-old continues to serve as one of the most reliable sources of rebounds in any fantasy format.

Update: Gobert recorded 11 points (4-5 FG, 3-8 FT), 15 rebounds, two assists and four blocks over 33 minutes in Friday's 111-93 victory over the Celtics.

Analysis: It was a quintissential Stifle Tower performance, with modest shot attempts, dominance on the glass, and a few rejections thrown in for good measure. Gobert has rattled off five straight double-doubles, despite allowing some productive games to opposing centers in recent contests. Nevertheless, he's once again become a prolific source of production in rebounds, and is providing some solid point totals to complement that. Gobert now has double-digit scoring efforts in 14 of his last 15 games, after tallying single digits in four of his first five outings following his January return from a knee injury.

Update: Gobert had 16 points (5-9 FG, 6-9 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 30 minutes on Thursday in a loss against the Wizards.

Analysis: Gobert had himself another double-double but was actually outplayed by his counterpart, Marcin Gortat. Fear not, as this was the fourth straight double-double for Gobert and his eighth in the last 10 games. Gobert will never dazzle the people with his scoring output, but it's the other intangibles that make him an asset to your fantasy team. Feel free to continue rolling out Gobert in every single format because his next matchup against the Celtics on Friday is as good as they come.

Update: Gobert compiled 12 points (3-4 FG, 6-8 FT), 14 rebounds, two blocks, and one assist across 33 minutes in Wednesday's 100-96 loss to the Pelicans.

Analysis: Gobert did most of his damage offensively in the third quarter, producing nine of his 12 points while getting the better of the Pelicans' center tandem of Omer Asik and Alexis Ajinca. The third-year big man has now cranked out three double-doubles in a row, marking his longest streak of the season.

Update: Gobert collected 14 points (2-7 FG, 9-12 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists, four blocks and a steal over 35 minutes in Saturday's 98-89 victory over the Suns.

Analysis: Gobert now has double-digit scoring performances in all four February games, along with two double-doubles. The 23-year-old visited the charity stripe a season-high 12 times Saturday, which accounted for an overwhelming majority of his scoring total. Although he is clearly limited on offense, Gobert's proficiency on the glass and ability to offer solid production in defensive categories renders him a viable option in all fantasy formats.

Update: Gobert posted 15 points (6-7 FG, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds, an assist, three blocks and five steals over 38 minutes in Friday's 84-81 victory over the Bucks.

Analysis: The Stifle Tower made up for a couple of recent contests where opposing big men have uncharacteristically gotten the better of him, posting a season high in steals while recording multiple rejections for the third time in five games. Gobert has been refreshingly proficient on the scoreboard in the 15 contests he's played in since a month-plus absence due to a knee injury. He's managed 10 double-digit scoring performances over that span--including four straight--along with five double-doubles. Gobert is averaging a solid 14.3 points, 8.3 ebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 2.3 steals over three February contests.

Update: Gobert tallied 16 points (6-10 FG, 4-8 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists, and one steal across 43 minutes in Monday's 105-96 overtime win over the Bulls.

Analysis: The return of Derrick Favors (back) has done little to limit the effectiveness of Gobert, who actually seems to be improving with his usual frontcourt mate alongside him. Over the last four games, Gobert has churned out averages of 13.3 points (on 63.6% shooting), 13.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and one steal over 35 minutes.

Update: Gobert scored 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-4 FT) while adding a team-high 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in 31 minutes during Friday's win over the Timberwolves.

Analysis: Starting alongside Derrick Favors for the first time in two months, Gobert recorded his third straight game with double-digit boards and seventh double-double of the season. His scoring remains inconsistent as his offensive game is still mostly limited to dunks and put-backs, but Gobert's 10.5 boards and 2.6 blocks a game on the season would rank him eighth and second in the league, respectively, if he'd played enough games to date to qualify for the leaderboard.
