JUSTIN ANDERSON (SF)
  • Jul 24 2016, 13:22 PM

Update: Anderson averaged 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 27.8 minutes per game over five appearances in the Las Vegas Summer League.

Analysis: The second-year swingman was a catalyst for the Mavericks in Vegas, leading the team in both rebounds and assists while serving as the team's second-leading scorer. Anderson isn't at risk of getting cut in training camp, but it's still uncertain how large of a role he might have in 2016-17. The Mavericks lost Chandler Parsons in the offseason, but replaced him with an established option in Harrison Barnes, who will join Wesley Matthews as a starter on the wing. Both players figure to play at least 30 minutes per night, leaving precious little court time left over for the likes of Anderson, Seth Curry, Devin Harris and Nicolas Brussino.

Update: Anderson played 24 minutes and compiled 14 points (5-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), four rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block across 24 minutes in Monday's 118-104 Game 5 loss to the Thunder.

Analysis: Though the Mavericks were eliminated from the playoffs with the loss, Anderson saved his best performance for last, as he tallied double-digit points for the third straight game while making his first start of the series. The rookie settled into a rotation role from mid-March on with the Mavericks, with his opportunities opening up after Chandler Parsons suffered a season-ending knee injury. Anderson should enter 2016-17 as a regular in the rotation, but it's too difficult to determine at this time if there will be a starting spot available for him.

Update: Anderson will come off the bench in Monday's matchup with the Mavericks.

Analysis: Anderson was originally expected to start, but J.J. Barea replaced him in the lineup at the last minute. The game is a must-win for both teams involved, and both teams waited until the last minute to announce their starting lineups as a form of gamesmanship. With both Deron Williams and Barea back, Anderson should see his workload reduced.

Update: Anderson will make another start at shooting guard Wednesday against the Knicks, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Anderson moved into the starting lineup Monday against the Nuggets, effectively filling in for Deron Williams, who continues to battle nagging abdominal and groin strains. The rookie fared well, scoring 11 points in 24 minutes during the victory, and his performance will earn him another turn with the top unit. Anderson figures to see similar court time Wednesday, but don't expect him to be much more than a secondary source of scoring for the Mavs.

Update: Anderson scored 10 points (3-7 FG< 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT) in a loss to the Warriors on Friday. He added three assists, three rebounds, and two blocked shots in 25 minutes of action.

Analysis: With Dallas playing without five players due to a variety of reasons, Anderson received his most court time since January. The rookie guard should continue to see minutes with teammate Chandler Parsons out for the remainder of the season but his productivity remains too inconsistent to make much of a fantasy impact.
