CHRIS MCCULLOUGH (PF)
  • Jul 21 2016, 10:13 AM

Update: McCullough averaged 10.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in five Las Vegas Summer League contests.

Analysis: While the Syracuse product impressed as a rebounder and defender, he converted only 36 percent of his field goals, a concerningly low number for an interior player. McCullough put up a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double in a win over the 76ers but followed up with just four points on 2-of-16 shooting in Saturday's tournament-play loss to Cleveland. The 21-year-old remains a project player as he enters his second NBA season, but considering the Nets position as one of the league's weakest teams, he figures to hold down a fairly consistent bench role, as was the case near the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Update: McCullough managed 10 points (3-6 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), five steals, three rebounds, one assist, and one block in 25 minutes during the Nets' 121-103 loss to the Wizards on Wednesday.

Analysis: McCullough has topped 20 minutes in four straight contests after seeing no more than 17 minutes in any game prior. Wednesday's 25 minutes were a career high, and the rookie is likely to continue receiving plenty of opportunities over the final four games.

Update: Nets interim coach Tony Brown revealed Wednesday that McCullough has seen reduced time of late due to struggles with the playbook, Mike Mazzeo of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: McCullough has been a healthy scratch each of the last two games, despite being a relatively high-upside young player on a team with nothing to lose at this point in the season. It appears as though he may have fallen into Brown's doghouse, so it won't be a surprise if the Syracuse product continues to ride the bench over the final 12 games of the year.

Update: McCullough (illness) managed one point (0-1 FG, 1-2 FT), one rebound, and one steal in seven minutes during the Nets' 131-114 win versus the 76ers on Tuesday.

Analysis: McCullough has appeared in five of the Nets' seven games during March, and he is averaging 2.6 points, 1.6 rebounds, and one block in 11 minutes per matchup this month. Despite the fact that the bench has been getting a lot of opportunities lately, McCullough has not surpassed 16 minutes in any individual contest.

Update: McCullough (illness) will be available Tuesday against the 76ers, Mike Mazzeo of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: McCullough was battling an illness Tuesday morning, but after resting throughout the afternoon, he's been cleared to play. The rookie is unlikely to hold a major role, but he's seen more consistent court time of late, playing double-digit minutes in three of the last five contests.

Update: McCullough is considered questionable to play Tuesday against the 76ers due to an illness, Mike Mazzeo of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: McCullough is battling a virus of some sort, and the Nets are expected to issue an update on his status sometime Tuesday morning. The rookie has been only an ancillary contributor this season in what's ultimately been a developmental year for the 29th overall pick in last June's draft.

Update: McCullough managed two steals and one rebound in 10 minutes during the Nets' 105-95 loss to the Clippers on Monday.

Analysis: McCullough missed both of his field goal attempts (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt), but the rookie out of Syracuse is averaging 2.5 points, one rebound, and one steal in 10 minutes per appearance through six games. Given that the Nets recently waived Joe Johnson, McCullough could see a spike in playing time over the remainder of the season as the team looks to build towards the future. However, there are undoubtedly better options on the waiver wire, and McCullough is not yet worthy of consideration in fantasy.

Update: McCullough (knee) played 11 minutes in his NBA debut during Monday's 105-104 win over the Nuggets. He finished with two points (1-3 FG), two rebounds, one steal, and one block.

Analysis: McCullough hadn't played in a competitive game for more than a calendar year while recovering from the torn ACL he suffered when he was a member of Syracuse last January, but offered glimpses of his ample athleticism in his inaugural game with the Nets. Interim coach Tony Brown said after the game that the first-round draft pick could still be held under a minute restriction over the next several games, so expect the team to ease him into the rotation gradually. If he can avoid any setbacks with his knee the rest of the way, the 21-year-old could become one of the Nets' top players off the bench, as the reserve frontcourt crew of Thomas Robinson, Willie Reed, and Andrea Bargnani has been mostly devoid of production all season.

Update: McCullough (knee) is still expected to make his NBA debut Monday against the Nuggets, Nets Daily reports.

Analysis: McCullough is a year removed from the torn right ACL he suffered during his freshman season at Syracuse, but with the Nets listing the rookie as active in the past two games, it looks like he's nearly ready to go. Because of the long layoff due to the injury, McCullough will likely be eased back into the fold slowly, but if he thrives even in minimal court time, there should be an opportunity for him to occupy a prominent bench role, as the Nets are short on appealing forward options on their second unit.

Update: McCullough (knee) will be active beginning with Friday's game against the Kings, but isn't expected to play until at least Feb. 8 versus the Nuggets, Andy Vasquez of The Record reports.

Analysis: The Nets weren't even certain if McCullough would suit up at this season after a torn ACL suffered last January while he was at Syracuse caused him to slip in the draft. Fortunately, it looks like the soon-to-be 21-year-old has progressed well from the injury, and he should be able to make his NBA debut shortly before the All-Star break. Because of the extensive time he's missed, look for McCullough to play only a bit role for the Nets in the second half of the season.

Update: McCullough (knee) has been cleared to play but the Nets will hold off his NBA debut until after the All-Star break, Fred Katz of FOX Sports reports.

Analysis: McCullough awaits his NBA debut after being drafted by the Nets in July with a torn right ACL. The updated timeline suggests his first taste of game action in over a year could take place on Feb. 19 against the Knicks, although he's in store for limited minutes behind Thaddeus Young for the remainder of the season.

Update: McCullough (illness) sat out Tuesday's practice session, Andy Vasquez of The Record reports.

Analysis: McCullough continues to work back from a knee injury, but he sat out Tuesday's session due to illness. The rookie out of Syracuse is essentially 'redshirting' this season, according to coach Lionel Hollins, and he's unlikely to make a tangible impact at the NBA level until 2016-17, at the earliest.

Update: McCullough (knee) is able to participate in 5-on-5 practice but has not been cleared for games, Mike Mazzeo of ESPN reports.

Analysis: McCullough has yet to make his NBA debut after tearing his ACL while still playing in college at Syracuse last season. There had been rumors swirling that he might take the entire 2015-16 season off, but this most recent news suggests he'll be making his debut sometime in the next couple of months.
