Warriors whip Portland at home in opener of West semifinals

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) From the opening tip, Klay Thompson shot lights-out and even heaved one in from way out in Stephen Curry territory. Draymond Green began yapping from the start while doing his thing to make plays every which way, calling on his teammates to bring an edge on defense.
With Curry sidelined because of a sprained right knee, Green and Thompson took charge again. Their supporting cast came through in the clutch, too.

Warriors whip Portland at home in opener of West semifinals

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Klay Thompson scored 37 points in another brilliant performance as fellow ''Splash Brother'' Stephen Curry watched injured, and the Golden State Warriors again dominated without their MVP to beat the Portland Trail Blazers 118-106 Sunday in the opener of the Western Conference semifinals.

Maurice Harkless

Jul 26 2016, 13:28 PM

Update: N/A

Analysis: After going underutilized for much of the first half of the season, Harkless took over as the Blazers' starting power forward in February and made a positive impression. In his 14 regular-season starts, Harkless averaged 11.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.0 block in 26.9 minutes per game. He came close to maintaining those averages during the Blazers' 11-game postseason run, but it's uncertain if he'll continue to work as a starter in 2016-17. The Blazers' brain trust has already indicated that the team intends to play Al-Farouq Aminu more frequently at power forward this season, and with Evan Turner and Allen Crabbe in the mix to see playing time at the other forward spot, Harkless could see his minutes tail off a bit.

Noah Vonleh

Jul 21 2016, 13:18 PM

Update: N/A

Analysis: Vonleh opted to jump ship to the NBA after one season at Indiana which, in retrospect, may not have been the best decision for his growth as a player. In two professional seasons, Vonleh has posted 3.6 points and 3.8 boards per game. However, it seems as though the former lottery pick may finally be projecting into the player scouts once thought he would become. Vonleh led Portland in the rebounding column and proved to be one of the team's most reliable offensive options this summer. Despite the emergence of Mason Plumlee, the Trail Blazers still haven't completely filled the void left from LaMarcus Aldridge's departure last season. In a perfect world, Vonleh would step up and surface as a solid contributor. However, whether or not the 20-year-old has the ability to cement his presence in the rotation remains to be seen.
