Suns remove 'interim' tag, retain Earl Watson as coach

PHOENIX (AP) Without formally interviewing anyone else, the Phoenix Suns retained Earl Watson as their head coach for next season.
Watson was named interim coach after Jeff Hornacek was fired on Feb. 1.
The team went 9-24 under Watson, finishing the season with the second-worst record in franchise history (23-59). But general manager Ryan McDonough liked what he saw from the young coach.

PHOENIX (AP) The Phoenix Suns are retaining Earl Watson as head coach for next season.
Watson was named interim coach after Jeff Hornacek was fired on Feb. 1.
The team went 9-24 under Watson, finishing the season with the second-worst record in franchise history (23-59). Rudy Gay

Jul 26 2016, 13:48 PM

Update: N/A

Analysis: In the interview, Gay mentioned he has been dealing with Achilles tendonitis for the past couple of seasons and underwent surgery to address the problem. He reportedly now feels better than he has the past two years and shouldn't be limited by the injury as training camp approaches. Gay, who's name has been swirling in trade rumors, had a down-year last season but could return to form next year as he returns to full strength, regardless of what team he ends up with.

Willie Cauley-Stein

Jul 21 2016, 12:19 PM

Update: N/A

Analysis: The 7-foot-1 big man's summer league performance comes as a bit of a disappointment considering where he was just one year ago. It is understandable that many close to the Kings were expecting big numbers this summer after Cauley-Stein averaged 7.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game during his rookie campaign. Although it would have been nice to see him blow away the competition, it still was just a four game sample. The former Kentucky standout is likely to see an increased role this season, especially if the Kings decide to part ways with star center Demarcus Cousins.
