Thibodeau's role w/Wolves: 'It's about alignment, not power'
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Tom Thibodeau came to Minnesota for the impressive young core of talent assembled. He came to the Timberwolves for the shiny new facilities and the chance to take over a team that has been at the bottom of the NBA and bring it back into the playoffs. And he came to work with a close friend in Scott Layden, forming a partnership with a man he has trusted for nearly two decades after he clashed with Bulls management in a messy exit from the Chicago last spring. ''For me personally, this is about alignment,''
Stephen Curry out at least 2 weeks with sprained right knee
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Stephen Curry will miss at least two weeks for Golden State with a sprained ligament in his right knee, dealing a blow to the Warriors' hopes of following a record-breaking season with a second straight championship. The Warriors said an MRI on Curry's knee Monday determined he had a Grade 1 sprain of the MCL and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. Analysis: The eight-year veteran has spent the last two seasons backing up Derrick Rose with the Bulls and is coming off a 2015-16 campaign where he posted averages of 7.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists over 16 minutes per game. Brooks will join the Pacers as depth at point guard and will likely share a backup role with Rodney Stuckey. However, Brooks shouldn't see a huge jump in minutes despite the change in scenery, so his fantasy value may remain a bit restricted.
Analysis: Gasol's contract includes a $15.33 million player option for the 2017-18 season, which he could choose to exercise if he's able to continue to playing at a high level in his first campaign with the Spurs. The 36-year-old certainly didn't seem to be over the hill in 2015-16 with the Bulls, averaging 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.0 blocks in 31.8 minutes per game while earning the sixth All-Star nod of his career. With Tim Duncan deciding to retire following a Hall of Fame career, Gasol represents a worthy inheritor to the starting center spot for the Spurs. He'll likely see more games off for rest and fewer minutes this season in accordance with coach Gregg Popovich's preference to limit the wear and tear on his veterans during the regular season, but Gasol still figures to be one of the top fantasy assets at the center spot due to his strong shooting marks from the field and free-throw line and his strong contributions across multiple counting stats categories.
