Update: Hawes (shoulder) didn't see the floor in Sunday's 106-73 Game 7 loss to the Heat.
Analysis: Hawes was surprisingly deemed active for the series finale after the Hornets initially ruled him out for the remainder of the first round, but it appears he was only available in an emergency. With the Heat pushing their lead to 30 points by the end of the third quarter, there was no need for coach Steve Clifford to call Hawes' number with the game slipping away.
Hawes will miss the remainder of their first-round series against the Miami Heat with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
The team says Hawes will be re-evaluated in a week, which means he wouldn't be available if the series goes to a seventh and deciding game on Sunday. He was injured during Charlotte's win in Game 5 Thursday night in Miami.
